APC's narrow victory in yesterday's by-election in Katsina state, President Buhari's home state, is a troubling twist, and an indictment of the ruling party's performance in the past two years.
With 24, 777 votes reportedly cast in the Dutsi/Mashi Federal Constituency by-election, APC candidate received over thirteen thousand votes, with the PDP candidate following closely with over ten thousand votes, showing a margin of just around three thousand votes.
In a politics already saturated with demonization of the erstwhile ruling party to the point of ostracizing their members in the political space, the outcome of the election was confusing, and shows the media hasn't fairly presented the reality of the grassroots in its over-dramatization of the fall of PDP.
The bright side of this is, our political culture has come of age, for the election is a popularity test for the two major parties. For APC, it's a call to sit up and the PDP must embrace the impressive performance as an inspiration to mend their ways in this bumpy journey to redemption.
