Ten pirate locations in Enugu State have been raided by the Nigeria Copyrights Commission, which also arrested three suspects and recovered materials worth N30 million.
The NCC said on Saturday, in Enugu, that the move on the pirates followed a complaint from cable network providers such as Multi-Choice Nigeria.
It was learnt that the raid was carried out by two teams of copyrights inspectors and 20 Anti-terrorism Unit officers within Enugu metropolis.
In a related development, the NCC also embarked on another raid of some shops selling various types of “dongles” which are mainly used for piracy at E-Line in Ogbete Market, Enugu.
The raid resulted in the arrest of two persons and recovery and confiscation of items such as Q-Sats and A-Z Skys.
The enforcement actions, according to the South-East Zonal Manager of the NCC, Mrs. Ngozi Okeke, were in continuation of the war against piracy, which the commission has been waging over the years.
“This war has been intensified since assumption of office of our present Director General, Mr. Afam Ezekude, in the last few years and it is continuing”, Okeke said.
