In showcasing Africa to the world, some Nigerian American drummers were featured in Janet Jackson's latest video Made For Now also featuring Daddy Yankee.
Not only that, they were also featured in her performance at the Jimmy Fallon Show on Friday 17th August, 2018.
However, they have been billed to perform at her various tours as part of her music team. How splendid!!!
The performers are mostly American born citizens but their Nigerian heritage drew them to learning the local drums at a tender age.
It's exciting for them to be able to showcase their Nigerian sounds to the world through the international star's music.
In a chat with Olori Wendy, one of the musicians, Seun from New York, expressed it was awesome being highlighted musically, and God wanted it to happen so it came to pass. He also shared that he hopes the world gets to know Nigeria, and basically Africa positively through their Afrodrum beats, as they are proud to be the representatives.
The 5 Man Group consists of musicians like Seun, Emanuel, Tony Ade who play percussion instruments the Yorubas in Nigeria call; Gangan popularly known as Talking Drum, Omele, Bata, Iya Ilu also known as Dundun, and Sekere.
These instruments are popularly known and used by the Yoruba local musicians in Nigeria. However, other African tribes also play these percussion instruments.
Isn't it lovely for Africa's local drums sounds to be the highlight of an international pop music, playing all over the world.
