Nigerian Former Football Coach, Stephen Keshi Joins His Wife In Death

Sad news spread fast, and this time, the world is shocked and mourns as popular former footballer and former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi passed away on Wednesday following cardiac arrest.

In a presser obtained by Goal, the president said death has robbed the world a legend and master of the game, who will be solely missed.

“Keshi’s understanding and knowledge of the game will greatly be missed not only on the African continent but world over. His untimely death has robbed the footballing world of a true legend, mentor, leader, believer and master of the game.”


Keshi will be remembered for steering the Super Eagles to glory in the 2013 African Cup of Nations

He coached the Super Eagles on three occasions, leading them to the 2013 Nations Cup title in South Africa and the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup.

His contract was not renewed after the Brazil tournament but he returned on a match-by-match deal following the team's failure to reach the 2015 Nations Cup finals.


He was then sacked as caretaker coach but reinstated after intervention from then Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan was then sacked for a final time last July.

The ex- international lost his wife , Nkem Kate Keshi only last December. They had been married for more than 30 years. She died after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Mr. Keshi is survived by four children and his mother.
