Celine Dion Cancel Shows, Following Husband's Death


Life doesn't always move on for some after the death of their loved ones. It usually halt and following the devastating news of Celine Dion's husband René Angélil's death, Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino announced on their website that this weekend's shows have been canceled.


They had written in their statement "With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Celine performances Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled. Celine earlier today announced the death of her husband Rene Angelil after a long fight with cancer".

"All of us at AEG and at Caesars Palace have Celine and her children in our thoughts and prayers."


The couple had celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last month.


Celine Dion is slated to return to the stage on February 23, and those who have purchased tickets for this weekend's shows will be automatically refunded.

The 73-year-old, who mentored and managed the iconic singer's career, passed away in his Las Vegas home yesterday Thursday after a long and courageous battle against cancer.


However the family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time.

Concerning his death, the Clark County Office states Angélil died of throat cancer at his home in Henderson while under care of a physician, adding that the technical medical description of the cause of death is "squamous carcinoma of the floor of the mouth." 


Furthermore, the coroner tells E! News, "We have determined Mr. Angélil's death was due to natural causes. No further investigation into his death is expected. Our condolences go out to Mr. Angélil's family and friends during this difficult time for them."


René Angélil is survived by their children René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy,  and his adult children from a previous relationship, Anne-Marie, Patrickand Jean-Pierre.
