North Korea has claimed that it has succeeded at producing a cure for AIDS and other viral diseases.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) stated that the drug, named Kumdang-2, was developed from ginseng grown from fertiliser mixed with rare-earth elements.
“Malicious virus infections like SARS, ebolaand MERS are diseases that are related to immune systems, so they can be easily treated by Kumdang-2 injection drug, which is a strong immune reviver,” KCNA said.
According to the pro-North Korea website Minjok Tongshin, the drug was originally produced in 1996.
The country has however not provided proof that the drug actually works, leading to skepticism from many parts.
The announcement comes at a time when it’s closest neighbors South Korea battle a MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak.
