South Africa's Next Female Powerful Entertainers.

Meet the three beautiful divas who graced the stage on Divas Strings 3 night in an exclusive interview with Olori Wendy, on their music life as female entertainers.

Your name, music genre and general profile?

Wendy : I'm Wendy, first lady from cape town, female house vocalist, music writer and composer. I'm 26 year old. I've been performing around place like Sun Rise, Etv hectic 9 and Cape Town TV.
I've had Interviews at Radio stations like Bush Radio etc.

Lucci : My Name is Lucci Gucci, a Nigerian female singer based in SA. I do afro hip life, and RnB. Music is my first love, I love inspiring people through my songs. This month is about South African Women all over the world, we are celebrating women who have inspired people out there through their hard work in the society.

California : Birth name California Ntemane. Stage name California. My genre of music is urban afro soul!
Born in Mpumalanga, Bushbuckridge raised in Nelspruit. I came to Pretoria to study and pursue my career in Entertainment. I'm an actress, dancer and singer. Started out as a dancer for Moloko and various artistes including Tina. Finally decided to pursue my passion for music with my first single "Crazy Love" that has taken off and getting me out there along side with my own dance group known as "Wild shii"!, We just taking off!

How long have you been involved in music?

Wendy : It has been five years now

Lucci : I have been in the industry since 2001 , briefly before I decided to have a  degree in Business Administration from Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

California : Wow !!, I've been involved for almost five years now, three to four years with artiste and event promoters, and this year I'm finally going at it on my own.

Your journey so far music-wise?

Wendy : I have been an independent artiste for four years. I released my first album in 2010, performing around Cape town and Eastern Cape but didn't do well because I was alone, and lack of distribution and marketing. However, I've signed under Tshabngu Production and I'm working on my new album

Lucci : So far it has been awesome, you know when you have passion for what you do.
It always gives me joy when thrilling the audience with my stage performances. It gives me joy to make people happy. However, in terms of finance, it has not really been easy but by the grace of God, so far very good.

California : It hasn't been that smooth but I've been blessed to perform in most clubs and events like I did vocals at Morula Casino on Tina's Cabaret, then I performed at the Tswane Aids Day function as a volunteer perfomer. I done Danish Lounge in Soweto, Cappello Sunnypark, Lethabong in Alex...Something Fab in Sosha, I'm taking off with a lot of performances in Gauteng.
I'm working on my album and it is titled "California Writings" due for March 2014. I'm managed by BLR records and I'm still a work in progress.

Olori Wendy and Lucci

Your view about female entertainers in comparism to male entertainers?

Wendy : Females have to work harder than men when it come to performing Live. They need to be impressive, look good when they sing. They must always have a good message for people.

Lucci : Well, female entertainers are doing quite good as well as male entertainers , I can't really say that there are much differences except that there are more males in the industry than female entertainers, but otherwise, they both are doing quite very well.

California
: We have a whole lot more to prove as good entertainers because with every deal made, we have to battle with being seen as a sex symbol and not genuinely seen as an artiste that is good and talented at what we do. And we're way better entertainers than men, only we fail at times to work together and back each other as the male artists do.

Do you think female entertainers are relegated to the background?

Wendy : No, There was a time when they were at the background however now they are showing their potentials and the ability to break through in the industry.

Lucci
: Mmmmm! I wouldn't say that actually because it is not about the ranks actually but the potentials. Female entertainers are really very great on their own side, like I said before, it is only population difference and nothing more.

California : I don't think so...I think to some extent women are fearful as well to just go out there and hustle for themselves. We are encouraged to find a man to provide instead of going to find ways to provide. In that form we are relegated.

Wendy

Your wish for females in the entertainment industry.

Wendy : Working together as team, have their own record labels and not underestimate themselves as well as grow in music, helping each other.

Lucci : I wish that the female entertainers should keep the fire burning, never to be intimidated by the male entertainers in the industry and to keep inspiring people out there. I wish us all the best future.

California : I wish for us to take the entertainment industry by the horns and take the lead. Have females in production, management and in the public. Above all, work together and empower each other to change the industry, to change the world.
