We received the news of the attack of a former Governorship Aspirant of APC in Edo State , Mr Blessing Agbomhere and a former Governorship Candidate in Bayelsa State with a huge shock and with utmost sobriety.
We do not intend to accuse anybody of liability as we don't not know those who are responsible or the person(s) who might have instigated them, but whosoever is involved and for whatsoever reason(s) let it be told that the act is barbaric, demonic, preposterous, unacceptable, condemnable and antihuman. It is not only an assault on him or others but an assault to all of us who are supposed to be enjoying our Fundamental Human Rights.
If a person of high status like Blessing could be attacked and treated like this in his own State by thugs, what hope does the ordinary man in the street has?
If such attack could be carried out in the airport that is supposed to be one of the safest place, it means the Nigeria security system has totally collapsed and all of us are no longer safe.
What type of impression have we created in the minds of visitors at the airport and those who were with Blessing? That we are barbarians and vampires in Edo State? God forbid! That we have no regard for the sanity of human lives and dignity of persons?
What sin has Blessing Agbomhere committed to warrant such attack?
What about if the youths of Bayelsa whose brother was also attacked decide to embark on reprisal, have the perpetrators not succeeded in instigating ethnic/interstate Conflict and animosity?
Those hoodlums or anybody who instigated them to do this are enemies of Edo State who are trying to drive away investors who are currently patronising our State under this Godwin Obaseki led Government for investment.
This could not have been done at this time the Governor has almost alienated agberos and hoodlum not only from Government House but from the Edo State and bring in civility, sanity and decency. And those who have perpetuated this act have shown that they are enemies of the people who have endlessly celebrated the final burial of Agberos in Edo State.
This attack is most ungodly and totally condemnable. We cannot allow anybody to turn Edo State into Banana Republic. We all must stand up to protect our dear State from the reign of thuggery and abuse of the Rights and respect of all human Rights. This is an affront to democracy and a slap to all Edo Youths.
This is not about the individual involved, but about the luciferous actions of the thugs and its consequences on the State. It is abominable and must be condemned by true patriots and sane minded individuals .
The Edo State Police command must ensure the prosecution of those arrested and investigate the whole attack to a satisfactory end.
