Recently it was published and spread that The Radio Biafra director, Nnamdi Kanu, had apologized to the Presidency, however, his brother, Prince Kanu, has called the report “a blatant lie”.
In his exclusive interview, Prince stated that report is an attempt to call bluff all effort to get justice for his brother. “That is blatant lie, when and how? Where did the person see him to get the apology from?” Prince wondered.
He also added that the articled as published by Punch is an attempt to sell their newspaper.
“I will put it as Punch’s propaganda, a Lagos-Ibadan expressway propaganda to sell their papers,” he said.
The brother of the embattled Radio Biafra boss also noted that report on his brother’s apology was weird. “It is a very strange, a weird report, because I have been in communication with my brother (Nnamdi Kanu) and as far as I am concerned he did not grant any interview to anybody and never made a statement apologizing to anybody, So, only God knows where the junk is coming from,” Prince said.
He said the report was a propaganda by the Nigerian government, an indication that the government was trying everything possible to destroy Kanu’s defence.
The apology, the Punch reported, was contained in a statement which the 48-year-old pro-Biafra agitator made available to the DSS on October 23.
In the report, Kanu was said to have apologized to President Muhammadu Buhari for calling him ‘a pedophile’ among other things.
After being granted bail by a magistrate court and, subsequently, by a federal high court, Kanu is currently being detained by the State Security Service (SSS) over allegations of managing an unlawful society, unlawful possession of firearms and assisting in the management of unlawful society, all punishable under Section 27 (b) (1) of the Firearms Act CAP F28 and Section 63 of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
Also An Igbo group, Aka Ikenga has warned the federal government that mayhem would be unleashed if Nnamdi Kanu passes away in detention.
Since Kanu's arrest, there have been several protests in some parts of the country. The protesters have also been agitating for an independent Biafra state.
Goddy Uwazurike, the president of the group said on Wednesday, December 30 in Lagos that since a competent court had ordered his release, the government should comply.
He berated the government for tampering with the rule of law and warned of serious consequence if Kanu dies in prison.
In his words: “It is executive lawlessness to detain a man who has been unconditionally released by the court of competent jurisdiction. That is what the law says. That is why the judiciary is there”.
“The rule of law is a cardinal part of our democracy so when the court gives judgment, everyone obeys. It is not for the government to prosecute and adjudicate at the same time. To continue to detain a man after he has been freed is nothing but executive brigandage".
He added “ the federal government is asking for something bigger than what is happening now if anything untoward should happen to Kanu while in detention. What is right is right, what is wrong is wrong. It is wrong to keep a man in detention after he has been freed by the court, If anything happens to him, then they bear hundred percent liability for it. If you have no right to do what you are doing and you continue to do it, then they should face whatever they see”.
Speaking more about the Government treatment of Kanu, he further said “They arrested him and took him to court. Having submitted to the jurisdiction of the court, why then are you treating the court as if they don’t exist? If you don’t want the judiciary to exist, why don’t you go ahead and amend the constitution and delist the judiciary?. Then you also delist the legislature and we will all know that we have a full military government.”.
